5-day hut-to-hut trek in the Alpstein as spring awakens. Let yourself be surprised by the Alpstein! Mountain ridges, lakes, and impressive peaks—you’ll never get tired of the views. During this week, you’ll likely wonder why this hidden hiking paradise is known to so few. We’re happy to keep it that way, because it lets us enjoy the peace and untouched nature even more. This is an accessible trek for anyone who wants to try a hut-to-hut hike for the first time or simply enjoy a long weekend of walking. Five days in the mountains will make you feel like you’ve been away for weeks. In this spring edition, we hike through colorful flower fields and the last remnants of winter snow, allowing you to experience the mountains at a truly special time of year. We are among the first guests of the season in the huts where we stay. The start of the new, still-quiet season creates that extra bit of personal connection with the welcoming hut hosts—something you’ll always remember. This short trek offers a perfect moment of relaxation just before summer.

In the late afternoon, we gather at the parking area in Brülisau. From there, we walk at a relaxed pace along a well-maintained trail to Berggasthaus Ruhesitz. After a shared dinner, it’s time for a more in-depth introduction. Over a drink, we go through the program for the coming days in a relaxed setting. By prior arrangement, it is also possible to arrive after dinner.

This morning, we hike along forest trails and woodland paths to our first hut. The route passes beneath towering rock faces and above beautiful lakes—the true enjoyment has begun! For those who want more, there is an optional afternoon hike to Widderalp and possibly further up to the pass above. But you can also spend a relaxing afternoon around the hut and the lake just below it.

Our first hike from the Hundsteinhütte is a circular walk to Alp Sigel. We circle the ridge between Rheintaler Säntis and the Schwendetal—stunning views over the Alpstein and towards Lake Constance are guaranteed!

Our second hike from the Hundsteinhütte leads via Fählenalp to the Zwinglipasshütte. The area around the Zwinglipasshütte is more rugged and receives more snow in winter. If conditions allow, we return via Roslenalp; otherwise, we take the route back via Fählenalp. Either way is rewarding, as the return journey offers completely different views.

After one final night in the mountains, we walk back along the ridge to our starting point. Along the way, we not only look back on the area we explored over the past few days, but also enjoy stunning views over the Rhine Valley! At the top, we face one last tough choice: do we descend all the way back to the starting point in Brülisau, or continue up to the viewpoint Hoher Kasten and take the cable car down from there… In the early afternoon, we begin our journey back to the Netherlands.
